4.3. Tied to company

Employee turnover is a major problem for US companies, especially for highly trained and qualified resources. Hiring a foreigner that wants to immigrate usually ties him or her with the company for the number of years the work visa can last. Although you can switch jobs while on a work visa, you are less likely to do so than an American.

How to exploit:

Convince recruiters you really want to stay: Many recruiters fear a foreign student will only stay in the US for a year or two for training. When asked (or even if not asked), do not hesitate to show your intentions of staying for the long term, and have a good couple of reasons why. We said earlier that you should be careful when saying you want to stay – BUT NOT with recruiters.
